Weaving Heritage into Community Progress
From early childhood growing up in Barcaldine to leading the Barcaldine community as the manager of the Central West Aboriginal Corporation, Janeece has led an interesting life. In this podcast interview with Janeece, we explore her origins growing up in the 1970s with her father as a manager of a sheep station outside of Barcaldine, her university and early working life leading to her role in the Central West Aboriginal Corporation.
Janeece’s story is one of inclusion and community mindedness. Her father was unique within the Barcaldine community in the 60’s and 70’s as being an Aboriginal man who managed a sheep station - the owners of the station even helped him purchase his own house! CWAC was originally created as a way to help indigenous communities with housing, and with Janeeces early life imprinted with opportunities and community first initiatives, you can see these principals have flowed through to her current role at CWAC.
With Janeece at the helm of CWAC, she has been steadily steering it to recreate the inclusiveness that she felt in her early life all the while adapting to the modern world. Watch the interview to gain insight into life in Barcaldine in the 70s and what is in store for CWAC in the future.
