Batting for a Better Future: Alpha's Charity Cricket Challenge
On a pitch perfect summers day in Alpha, 300 people converged for a day of fun, sports and fundraising. The Alpha branch of the Isolated Children Parents Association (ICPA) has been holding an annual cricket day for almost three decades drawing enthusiasts from across Central Queensland. The limited overs cricket tournement hosted 28 teams this year in a round robin style competition culminating in nail biting knock out rounds to crown the grand champions.
Along with advocating opportunities and rights for rural children, the Alpha ICPA uses the funds raised from events like the cricket day to send delegates to state and federal conferences, as well as sport clinics for kids in conjunction with local state schools.
In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, the Blackall Boyz knocked it for six once again, securing the coveted trophy for the second consecutive year.
